ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. It asks an organisation to understand its context and customers, plan processes, control what it delivers, measure results and improve. It is the most widely used management system standard and often the first certificate a company obtains.
A new edition, ISO 9001:2026, was published in September 2026. Certificates to ISO 9001:2015 remain valid during the transition period, which is expected to last three years and is confirmed by IAF and the accreditation bodies. The core structure stays the same, with more attention to quality culture, ethical behaviour, risks and opportunities, and the needs of interested parties. For a new project we plan against the edition your certification body will audit, and we confirm this with them at the start.
In Georgia the certificate is rarely a legal requirement. It is usually a commercial one:
Duration depends on company size, number of sites and how much is already in place. We set the plan after the initial assessment.
An independent certification body audits the system in two stages. After a successful stage 2 audit it issues a certificate valid for three years, with annual surveillance audits. To make sure the certificate is accepted by EU buyers and in tenders, choose a body accredited by an IAF MLA signatory and check the certificate in IAF CertSearch. The Georgian Accreditation Centre (GAC) is the national accreditation body of Georgia; whichever accreditation body is used, ask the certification body to show its accreditation scope.
ISO 9001 integrates easily with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 in one management system with shared procedures. For a document checklist, read ISO 9001 certification in Georgia: steps and documents, and for advice on selecting an auditor, see how to choose a certification body.

Both are valid during the transition period. Certification bodies set a date after which initial audits must use the new edition. If your audit is some months away, preparing for ISO 9001:2026 avoids a second transition. We confirm the options with your certification body.
Generally no. It is a voluntary standard. The demand comes from customers, EU buyers, international lenders and tender conditions.
Yes. The standard applies to any size. For small companies we keep the documentation light and focus on the records an auditor needs to see.
No. BALTUM prepares you for certification. The certificate is issued by an independent accredited certification body after its own audit.
